Welcome Back to the 2nd Semester

Welcome back!

It has been an exciting and busy first semester at B-Q-J! We will continue the trend as we enter the year 2017!

Let’s recap some of the exciting events of the first semester. We greeted great parents and aspiring new students at Meet the Teacher. Open House was a huge success. Movie Night was awesome! Our Hispanic Heritage program was absolutely Mucho Bueno! The Veterans Day Program was a real tear jerker as our students performed beautifully, and Ms. Barnes, one of our Kinder teachers, sang to our veterans. In December we partnered with Math classes from SFA to provide a Math Career Carnival for our 4th and 5th grade students.  Our students were excited about each of the math booths and the activities that SFA students designed and developed. Mr. Chambers, G/T coordinator for BQJ, facilitated several challenging opportunities for our G/T students. The students attended Arbor Day at Millard’s Crossing. The Robotics Team placed for the first time at competition held at Region 7 in Kilgore. Four of our students placed in the local DAR competition, and their entries have advanced to the state level. They will attend a luncheon held locally in March. Fourth and fifth grade G/T students presented ‘Twas the Night before Christmas Readers’ Theatre to PreK – 3rd grade.

We have held Fire Safety, Bus Safety, Red Ribbon Week, and Halloween 50’s day. Nurses from the district and from SFA helped to complete Vision and Hearing screenings for all our students. December brought Christmas fundraisers and a Christmas sing along, thanks to Mrs. Sifuentes. Mr. Fonzie issued prize rewards each six weeks for students meeting their behavior goals. The golden-ticket prize for the first nine weeks was attendance at the SFA basketball game for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students and a field day for our primary kids. The events provided great fun for all who met their goal.

So what is coming in 2017?

When we return from Christmas break, we will offer some times for you to come help us plan for the future of Brooks-Quinn-Jones. One way you can partner with us is by joining PTO. Great opportunities are in store when you plan to be a part of your child’s education. Your child will achieve more with parental support. After the break we will have our 9-week Awards Ceremony. Students will be recognized for attendance exceeding 97%, all A honor roll, all A’s & one B honor roll, and/or superior citizenship You will be notified of the time and place if your child is scheduled to receive any recognition.

Please make plans to attend our Coffee and Dragon Chat at 7:30 a.m. in the library with Mrs. Dowdy on January 12th.

Come. Visit the campus. Take part in your child’s education.

Let’s work together and do what it takes to make B-Q-J the most successful school in the State of Texas! With your help we will exceed all expectations!

Sincerely,
