The second grade class at BQJ participated in their reader’s fiesta event Tuesday afternoon. District staff and community members came together and listened as students read different books to them.

“The event was about celebrating our students’ progress and hard work over the year in reading, said second grade teacher Amber Wilson. “We had a wonderful turnout and the students were very eager to read and show off their skills.”

Students made their own individual lists of books that they wanted to read. Each listener would then make a choice and have the student read to them. Guests included parents and representatives from local businesses.

“The students liked it because they got to choose books that interested them,” said Wilson. “They were polite and introduced themselves to people that they didn’t know and weren’t shy at all.”
